Bleep

The second solo LP from Daniel Blumberg finds the former Yuck fellow delivering a selection of expansive art-rock numbers. Blumberg and his band taped On&On&On with former Scott Walker producer Peter Walsh, and there’s a certain shared outlook between Walker and Blumberg in the way that both artists create songs which unravel traditional songwriting techniques in order to create something boldly original. Blumberg’s work also has a distinct folksiness about it, with crystal-clear vocal harmonies and lilting violins giving an earthiness to these abstracted, contemplative tracks. The way in which Blumberg bases the album around four interconnected songs (‘On&On’, ‘On&On&On’ etc.) while moving out to explore adjacent terrain on the other tracks makes for a wholly fascinating listening experience.
