REPITCH first surfaced over a decade ago with a compilation of tracks from its three principals, Ascione, D. Carbone, and Shapednoise. In between then and now the Berlin label has become a global force in the electronic music world, helping bridge the gap between noise and techno with releases that dabble in industrial and bass just as much as hardcore and rave. While REPITCH’s three co-founders still play a huge part in its identity, the label has expanded their reach with releases from artists as disparate as the Zenker Brothers, Sleeparchive, Regis and VTSS. While the roster of REPITCH has certainly widened, their commitment to quality control has remained top notch. To wit, REPITCH has compiled Dys Functional Electronic Music X, a new compilation in celebration of blowing past the ten year mark, and it bangs with the same furious spirit as that initial offering.

Proposed as the sequel to 2017’s beloved Dys Functional Electronic Music, this new version functions as a demarcation of the label’s progress thus far as well as a roadmap for its future. The label’s signature blend of cutting edge sound design and floor filling groove remains intact, though the parameters through which that approach has thrillingly distended. Things kick off on a frantic note with an off-kilter club cut guaranteed to throw dancers off from Gabber Eleganza and Shapednoise called ‘Mastice Riddim (VIP Mix)’. Elsewhere, TSVI and Randomer go nearly dembow with kicks hard enough to splinter the concrete of a warehouse floor on their ‘Overbite’, while Ascion’s ‘Plugged (Heavy-Rotation Mix)’ pairs some dusty hip-hop drum loops with what sounds laser blasts from a sci-fi movie. Hardest of all may be the Baseck and Aura-T09 collab ‘Angelz’. A frankly ridiculous slice of hardcore that slams the breaks a few times for air, the drumbreaks on this track are sure to keep heads knocking.
