Shortly after their second album International Treasure was released, The Utopia Strong headed down to Maida Vale to lay down an even more immersive set of tracks with the live recordings of The BBC Sessions. Capturing the monolithic feeling of such an iconic space, the band add an epic feel to the slowly amplifying guitars on ‘Lamp of Glory’, evolving into ricocheting rhythms with walls of texture that unfold throughout the album’s reedy, introspective tones. Synth arpeggios ebb and flow to placid beats on ‘Miniature Citadels’, while reverent analogue ambience washes with waves of ancient sounding choral vocals on ‘The Tower is Locked’.
