Two heavyweights of Baltimore’s experimental rap scene in Infinity Knives and Brian Ennals team up once again for a new collaborative LP on the Phantom Limb label entitled A City Drowned in God's Black Tears. A true labour of love, Knives and Ennals had to record A City Drowned in full twice after file corruption wiped the slate near clean on the first pass. Breakdowns both technological and emotional ensued from there, and loss of all types creeps into the frame across these often desolate, yet oddly hopeful slices of life. Fellow Baltimore artist FRANKI3 also plays a big role here, offering guidance from her basement studio, arranging synths, and helping mix the many streams of musical detritus into the lean and mean sound you hear on record. While there’s a certain amount of darkness in the way Knives and Ennals take stock of the ills of the world here, they also offer camaraderie in tackling them together as a unit rather than wallowing in the wake.
