Mount Kimbie have made the journey from production duo to fully fledged indie rock band with a lot of grace, and their fourth album The Sunset Violent continues in this mode while remaining dedicated to eclecticism. There’s no better way to spotlight Mount Kimbie’s variety than with a handful of equally far reaching remixes: Astrid Sonne completely reconfigures ‘The Trail’ into a vaporific, chopping deluge of tipping cymbals and wispy vocals, DJ Python takes ‘Boxing’ in a sunrise direction as uplifting house beats ride the breeze, vocals cut into euphoric shapes forging a club/shoegaze connection, and Special Request’s steel plated pummel twists the warm new wave of ‘Shipwreck’ into frenzied acid breaks.
