Sheffield techno experimentalists The Black Dog are back on Dust Science for the sequel to 2023’s My Brutal Life LP. Brutalism was a big theme for Ken Downie and his Dust brother partners that year, with several releases centred on the architectural style as a lens through which The Black Dog explored some of the darker edges of humanity. My Brutal Life 2 however skips back around towards something like a celebration of the art style itself. Accompanied by a photobook, the music herein, while less concerned with nihilism, is every bit as emotionally resonant, with tracks like the ascending ‘I Dream In Concrete’ reveling in the beauty of urbanism.
