Gilla Band’s early years were heavy, and while things have only gotten more visceral for the Irish post punk outfit, there’s a certain rush and toothsomeness to the tracks on this EP that make them hold up just as well to any of their recent material. Low contorted rumbles of guitar sizzle alongside gushing fills of cymbals on ‘Law Man’ while vocals yell from the background, leading to the snaking lurching bassline of ‘I Love You’ as staticky noise growls and dips in and out of the groove, and the totally unfettered, screeching cover of the equally confounding Blawan track ‘Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage’ reached roaring and stampeding energy levels.
