The Lo Recordings label dusts off a treasured release in the Japanese electronic music story with this reissue of the Susumu Yokota compilation Image (1983-1998). While known primarily for his work as an ambient music producer and composer, the late Yokota also moonlighted as a house DJ, once crediting his discovery of acid house as the spark that helped him “visualise music.” The sketches included here hint at that evolution while playing things a bit closer to the ambient side of his output. Divided into two suites, the first half of Image includes guitar and organ experiments that date back to 1983-1984, while the flip’s slightly more robust instrumentals were recorded from 1997-1998 as a sort of response when Yokota rediscovered those early sessions.
